Weekly whatnots...

How was your week? I hope you have a relaxing weekend planned. We've been out the past few nights - so I'm a bit behind on things - and we've just got back from pumpkin hunting! More on that tomorrow. Here's this weeks what:nots.

A lovely image by Wendy Bevan.
The perfect hottie cover from here.

Wouldn't the snuggly socks in this image be perfect for a wintery weekend morning?

A simple and elegant apple container, along with a little owl friend.

I can so relate to this rabbit!?!

And to end with a great retro Life Magazine cover.

The Botany of Desire...

Michael Pollan's book The Botany of Desire which explores the relationship between people and plants has been made into a two hour documentary. The documentary follows the book's theory: It takes the plants' point of view in exploring whether they control humans to ensure their survival. Full of beautiful close ups and very thought provoking - you can watch a preview here.

Some weekend images...

Our weekend away was brilliant - lots of relaxing and pottering about in the wilderness. We stayed in the one store town of Camp Sherman, and exploring the Deschutes National Forest. Perfect!

Weekly what:nots...

I hope you've had a lovely weekend. We're back from our little trip away and to be honest I didn't want to leave. I'll pop some images up in the next day or so. In the meantime, here's this week's rather autumnal (fall-tumnal?) looking what:nots. Enjoy!

Xavier Veilhan's show at Versailles via The Selby.

A new book find - The Rarest of the Rare - full of the most astonishing treasures some of which date back to the 1700s.

A lovely and elegant dress from Lyell.

A great lamp and shrine from here.

Kiehl's packaging - simple and effective. By the way this peel is amazing - I'm all for ageing gracefully but this stuff is in-cred-i-ble.

I just love these pods and berries, and I'm quite taken by the vase as well.

And to end with an image from Domino of Carolina Herrera and Carolina Herrara Jnr.

A small delay...

How was your week? Have you plans for the weekend? We have run away to the woods where you can smell the pines, and hear the river rushing past our little cabin. Bliss! Sadly (but quite rightly) the internet here virtually non-existent and waaaaay too slow to upload images - so what:nots will have to wait until we return home on Sunday evening. Have a fun weekend!

Hmmm....

A dark bedroom with light floors, or ...

... a light bedroom with dark floors. Hard to decide - what do you think?

A slight addiction...

I'm the first to admit I have a slight addiction when it comes to stationery, and all things papery. OK maybe not quite slight, but can one ever really have enough in the way of cards, paper goods, illustrations and what have you? Especially when you come across items like these:

Antique postcards from John Derian Company Inc.

Sweet little airmail bags from Hooray Designs.

Lovely illustrations by the supremely talented Geninne. Click on the image to get a better view, or go here.

How Birds Sing - a letterpress book by Kay Ryan & Tucker Nichols.

Kitty Rogers 2010 Teeny Tiny Calendar. Perfect for little cards, tags, or what have yous.

1001 Rules...

I came across this great blog (soon to be a book) via A Cup of Jo (thanks Joanna!) - it's brilliant. Just like this blog/book, it's full of funny, and profound, 'rules' on life. Oh and there's also links to some great music, like Lou Reed's A Perfect Day. Love that song!

Molten lead to liquid light....

"...there was a deep pleasure of doing a stroke with increasing ease and speed, over and over, till hypnosis practically, the water turning from molten lead to liquid light..."

Don't you love swimming? I love this quote from Life of Pi. I always think of it when I'm swimming - it so completely sums up how I feel. Bliss! Hope you're having a lovely Tuesday.

Perceptions...

I posted about perceptions a while back and have just watched this great TED talk by Rory Sutherland. Thought-provoking, and at time hilarious - the Shreddies part is priceless! Well worth 16 or so minutes of your time. Hope you're having a lovely Monday - it's grey and calm here in Portland.

Weekly what:nots...

What are your plans for the weekend? We're relaxing and catching up on all Turtle & Mu's camp news. Whatever your plans I hope you have fun - here's what:nots for this week.

An achingly beautiful portrait by Patric Shaw.

This coat + tee + scarf + jeans = a perfect weekend outfit for Fall.

Wind and Crepe Myrtle Concerto by Alma Thomas. And it's a super short what:nots this week - but before I go - here is something that is hugely worthwhile:

An "award winning market-place" where you can give and volunteer to worthy projects all over the world. As Gandhi said "Be the change you want to see in the world".

Have a fun weekend!

A wonderful discovery...

This morning I came across Jaime Curtis' blog 500 pieces of Prudent Advice for my Daughter, and just had to post about it right away! Described as a collection of questionable lessons to share with my daughter before we grow up - it is a great read. A mixture of the funny and the profound, with lots of lovely poems and images thrown in. Hop on over and have a look! Here's a wee snippet:

"Just go! Go visit your Peace Corps friend volunteering in Guatemala; go wear a fancy dress to the Daytime Emmys; go chat with the boys at the Ghanaian Soccer Academy benefit. When you get an invitation to do something out of the ordinary see it as a little microcosm of life’s possibilities and say “yes” even if you’re tired, nervous, or uncertain. At least when you’re older you'll be able to reflect on your adventures instead of regretting the shiny bubbles of opportunity that floated away while you were moored to the couch."

A few quiet days...

With the boys away on camp I've had a few quiet days catching up on reading and researching, plus lots of fun evenings out with R and friends. I've also been listening to lots of music and finally sorting out my old playlists. Some fav new finds are -

Mademoiselle - Berry

Celestial - Tunes United.

I hope you're having a fun week - what:nots will be up tomorrow!

Thinking of summer...

Even though Fall (Autumn) has abrupty arrived in Portland and we're piling on the layers I'm still think of summer and summery things. All my seasons and times of year are still muddled, and given we'll have two weeks of summer in New Zealand mid-way through winter no doubt I'll become even more muddled. I think I'm definitely a warm weather person - how about you - warm or cold weather?
Speaking of summery - well spring-y things I adore the soft organic shapes of Farncisco Costa's Spring 2010 collection for Calvin Klein. You can see a video of the show here.

Little & lovely ...

Pottering about in Thea's Interiors a week or so back I came across these delicate vintage earrings from Max & Lucie. Well I just had to take them home, and have worn them every day since. Hop on over to Max & Lucie's etsy shop - there's lots of lovely delicate pieces - don't say I didn't warn you.
