I feel I don't need to say much about the general loveliness of Paris - it really goes without saying - the delights of wandering the streets, discovering tiny arcades, the chic boutiques and galleries, the food, the way of life... I could go on...instead I thought I'd share just one or two more things from our trip that I loved -
Jardins du Palais Royal - a serene oasis, tucked away from the hustle and bustle. Tree lined gardens, fountains, mosaic walkways, and quiet colonnaded arcades with boutiques and cafes.
Merci - the rave reviews about this place are well-founded. It is full of covetable things for you and your home, and has the coolest cafe with walls of floor-to-ceiling books. Not to mention all profits are donated to a charity in Madagascar.
Rue des Francs Bourgeois - located in the Marais this narrow street is filled with great shops - american vintage, bensimon, petit bateau, diptyque to name a few - plus great cafes and restaurants, and oodles of lovely buildings as well.
Roue de Paris - 197 metres high, and back in the Jardin des Tuileries after 'travelling the world', this ferris wheel is a wonderful way to get a bird's eye view of the city.
History of the Louvre - we escaped the maddening crowds of the main Louvre galleries, and found a great exhibition (complete with 3D scale models) showcasing the history of the Louvre from the 12th century to today. Fascinating, and quite astounding to realise just how old it's is!
Hotel Therese - tucked away on Rue Therese in the heart of the Right Bank, this charming hotel was a perfect base for exploring. Worth it for the scrumptious breakfasts, and our teeny-tiny attic room tucked away up a narrow curving staircase.
Fun! I believe I rode that ferris wheel...
ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous memories! I have one last very scruffy pair of bensimon sneakers that I still adore!
ReplyDeleteAh, Paris... We went there for our honeymoon. I'm so glad you had such a great time, Annie!
