Quietly still...
I'd like to be sitting under that blanket surrounded by stillness and quiet.

What:nots...
Well it's been a while since I've managed a what:nots post. I've had some of this list waiting patiently since our trip to the San Juan's and BC. Have you been to the San Juans? They were overwhelmingly beautiful. Remote, quiet, and oh so still. We stayed in a wee house on an inlet, watched deer wander past, and the water gently lap at our feet. Oh to disappear there for an extended stay. The last month or so has been a whirlwind of back to school things, packing + despatching our belongings to New Zealand, plus lots of riding. It's hard to believe we have less than ten weeks left in the States. Yikes! I hope all is well in your neck of the woods - here's a motley mix of things...
...I was delighted to hear that Eleanor Cattan's The Luminaries won the Man Booker
...If you're in Vancouver I can recommend dinner at Boneta - delicious!
...Here's a fascinating interview with 86 year-old Marie Hull-Brown on her career in the British Army, as a policewoman in post WWII London, and her work in raising mental health awareness
...And I found this blockbuster lived up all the hype.
Sir by D.S. & Durga - a chypre of Indonesian patcholui, amber, jasmine + mace.
An elegant, and temporary, tattoo.
Old Faithful Shop - a modern version of a general store.
A simple sculpture found here.
Vancouver's Nelson the Seagull - good bread and good coffee.
And this duet.

Grey cloaks the world...
After the Autumn brilliance, grey cloaks the world,
a sleepiness that seems as though it will last an eternity...

In the morning light...
... the final stages of packing.
It's hard to believe we're only three months away from heading home.

What:nots...
I did think about calling this post time, and the lack of it. Things are pretty busy around this neck of the woods - a few more hours each day would be quite nice. Anyhoo we're off to the San Juan Islands + Vancouver BC this weekend for a week - yippee. Any recommendations for either place would be great as I've not been to either before. So before I skedaddle off to deal with my boisterous horse, here's a few things that have caught my eye of late...
...This interview with author Matthew Quick - such a refreshing take on mental illness and depression. His new book has been added to my reading list.
...Did you know there's an iPhone Photography Awards? Hop over here to have a peak at this year's winners.
...I can heartily recommend this lemon ricotta cake, this grilled chicken + vege bowl, and this quinoa salad.
...Completely thrilled that Frame by Frame have reached their fundraising goal. An important story to tell, and support of photojournalism in this day and age is a must.
...An interesting project that captures the 'day to day' of 52 suburbs around the globe.
...And if you ignore the screaming and the Hollywood hype of who he is, this acceptance speech is inspirational.
Soft light and shadows found here.
Lovely new magazine discovery - have a peak at their Forest Gallery here.
Personalised zip pouches found here.
Le Feu Marron - a new favourite.
This cover by The XX is so beautiful.

What:nots...
Do you get the sense that summer is nearing an end? Even with some crazy hot weather, it feels like things are winding down. August is just a few days away so I guess it must be true. This has been our quietest summer ever, and it's been quite lovely. Aside from a small jaunt to Canada late next month may the quiet loveliness continue. I hope the summer (or winter) has treated you well - here's a few things that have caught my attention of late...
... a fascinating interview about groundbreaking research into a cancer vaccine using the body's own immune system
... Artifact Uprising's wooden print blocks, not to mention their stunning product range. Oh and their blog is pretty awesome too - especially this post on making adventure your life's work
... and a wonderful interview with Diane Ackerman the American author, poet, and naturalist. I'm eager to read her book The Zookeeper's Wife, as well as this one ...
Harpers Bazaar UK's summery July beauty cover.
Tarafirma's images from Marrakech - actually make that all of her instagram images.

What:nots...
Can you believe that June is just around the corner? I swear it feels like it is still February.
I hope you've been having a thoroughly pleasant weekend, and that is well in your neck of the woods. Here's a few things that have caught my eye recently ...
...breathtaking images of the statues in the Piazza della Signoria in Florence
...The once and Future World, found via Kate, which I've added to my reading pile
...these intriguing abandoned places shot by Sven Fennema found via Artistic Odyssey
A quite moment found here.
Erica Tanov's rather fetching wallet.
Grand IV by Landon Metz (found via Odessa May).
Fab yoga gear from Lucas Hugh.
A stack of buffalo horn bangles.
A clever book cover from The Book Cover Archive.
The perfect summer sandal.
And I've had this on repeat a bit of late - perfect for rainswept dreary days.
