Ever so slowly signs of spring are appearing - bulbs popping up, the occasional tree in blossom, increasing birdsong, fleeting sunshine, and of course lots of spring rain. The past week has been a funny old one (kind of slouchy and ponderous), but I did sneak out to Toro Bravo (yum) with a friend, plus rode twice which is always a good thing. I hope your week was a good one and that your weekend is going along nicely.

We just had the most perfect weekend. Our planned trip to the coast didn't eventuate, even still we had the best time. We headed up to Sauvie Island and went berry picking, watched movies (this was brilliant), dined alfresco (I'm loving this summery weather), walked in the park, went bike riding, and now it's Tuesday! What with errands, work, taking the boys to the movies, and what-have-you, yesterday just flew by. I hope you had a great weekend, and your week is off to a good start. The boys have a sewing-camp this morning, so I'm hoping to find the time to sit down with a cup of tea and catch up on some blog reading!
Another film on my must-see list this summer - Neil Jordan's Ondine. It's a lyrical modern fairy tale that tells the story of Syracuse (Colin Farrell), an Irish fisherman whose life is transformed when he catches a beautiful and mysterious woman (Alicja Bachleda) in his nets. His daughter Annie (Alison Barry) comes to believe that the woman is a magical creature, while Syracuse falls helplessly in love. Judging by the trailer and various reviews there is a darker side to this tale.... Clip from You Tube.

I can't wait to see Taika Waititi's new movie BOY. Set on the rural East Coast of New Zealand, in the year of 1984, Boy is a heart-felt (and hilarious) coming-of-age story.A dreamer who loves Michael Jackson, Boy lives with his brother Rocky, a tribe of deserted cousins and his Nan. Boy's other hero, his father, Alamein, is the subject of Boy's fantasies, and he imagines him as a deep sea diver, war hero and a close relation of Michael Jackson (he can even dance like him). In reality Alamein is in prison for robbery. When Alamein returns home after seven years away, Boy is forced to confront the man he thought he remembered, find his own potential and learn to get along without the hero he had been hoping for. How was your weekend? Ours was nice in every sense of the word. A lazy start then R's scrummy pancakes followed by wandering the NW and Pearl with two alarmingly-fast growing boys. How children can literally grow overnight astounds me! Oooh and we watched a fantastic movie - An Education. It was brilliant and extremely well cast - Carey Mulligan was utterly gorgeous. Sunday saw us all feeling a bit blah with colds, but I did duck out to Crafty Wonderland. And sure enough it was a true wonderland of all that Portland crafters have to offer. Enlighten Up! is a documentary where filmmaker Kate Churchill sets out to show how yoga can transform anyone. She chooses a skeptical journalist, Nick Rosen, to be her guinea pig. Kate immerses Nick in yoga, and follows him around the world as he examines the good, the bad and the ugly of yoga. The two encounter celebrity yogis, true believers, kooks and world-renowned gurus. As the movie progresses, tension between Nick and Kate runs high. His spiritual progress lags and her plan appears to crumble. But ultimately, what they find is not what they were looking for.

Ours was a perfect balance of relaxing and adventures, made even better by the fact it was four days long! I watched the lovely Like Stars on Earth - a brilliant movie. The trailer does not do it justice, and yes it has a few Bollywood dance numbers, but it tells a very touching tale. And parent or not, you may well shed a tear or two before the (thankfully) happy end.
