Blindsight...

It was with disbelief and great sadness that I heard photographer Tim Hetherington had been killed in Libya. His photography and film work is both beautiful and heart-wrenching, but most importantly it provided a raw and unflinchingly honest insight into many social and political issues worldwide.

There is something in the beauty of a grey wintery day. The bare trees, the thin, watery light, the frozen earth....such beauty in the icy bleakness and wintery silence....a deep winter still.

Grassroots soccer...

Jessica Hilltout spent seven months traveling across Africa documenting the continent's love of soccer. The photographs of her journey are spell-binding, as is the story of the people she met. "So many people have so  much and do so little with it," she said. "The people I met had so little, yet managed to do so much with it." Loving these slightly surreal photographs from Vee Speers 'The Birthday Party' series. I came across them while reading this. Pretty impressive what you can do in 10 days (and no doubt with a hefty budget). I hope your week is hopping along nicely.
